Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced Rs. 1 million for the family of each child killed in the Dir Colony school tragedy and Rs. 200,000 for each injured person.

During a visit to the school in Peshawar, Kundi also called for investigators to establish who had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the deteriorating building during the previous government’s tenure.

He said the investigation would examine the conduct of the school owner and all relevant departments, with action against anyone found responsible.

Kundi blamed the previous government for failing to carry out school audits, alleging that official negligence had allowed safety concerns to go unchecked. He said responsibility would be fixed regardless of where the failure occurred.

The governor said investigations would be completed within four days and insisted that the response would extend beyond announcing an inquiry committee. He criticized previous responses to such incidents as being limited to photo opportunities and committee proceedings.
